The main outcome aim for sending digital letters and text reminders is to modernise the way we communicate to patients as well as to meet the demands and preferences of patients.

Digital letters can be :-

  • Converted to 99 spoken language
  • Has the facility of an onscreen magnifier
  • Ability to switch to colour contrasted backgrounds in a variety of colours
  • Increase font size to larger print (entirely customisable) within 5 different font types
  • Convert to an easier reading format, by removing all formatting ie spaces and logos, aligning all text
  • Audio system embedded and can read out the information out to the patient

  • Click the link, enter the PIN code and your DOB to see your letter
  • All your appointment and hospital information is included

Is my text a scam?

You digital letter will arrive on a SMS with the name NHS Bolton which indicates this is not a scam, however the 7 day reminder for your outpatient appointment will arrive as a number and this is +44 7786 209 254.

What happens if my address is secure on your system?

Only designated members of staff have the authority to remove the security in order to book your appointment and they would then send your appointment out manually, you would not receive this digitally.

What if I require larger font on my letters?

When you receive your link to your digital letter, log into the portal you will be given an option to choose which size font you
would like your letter shown in. This will then automatically default for any further digital correspondence.

What if English isn’t my first language?

When you receive your link to your digital letter, log into the portal you will be given an option to choose which language you
would like to read your correspondence in, you can choose from over 100. This will then automatically default for any further digital correspondence.

What happens if I don’t have a mobile number?

If there is no mobile number stored on our patient system for you then a paper copy will be send out in the post to your home address. If you have a home number stored then you are still able to receive text reminders.

What happens if I do not have a smart phone and have opted out for receiving digital letters, can I still receive a paper copy in large font to help me with my visual impairment?

A letter can be printed out manually with the font size made larger if you have alerted the booking team this is your
requirement.
