Permanent closure of pharmacy at Bolton One

The pharmacy at Bolton One is to permanently close from Friday 11 October 2024.

The service, provided by Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, has experienced a significant reduction in demand, with a number of alternative pharmacy services now available in the area.

To minimise the impact on people who use the service, a number of measures are being put in place to ensure people can continue to access medication as and when they need it.

These include:

  • Making some pre-planned medicines available in clinic from Bolton One and for other medication, patients will be provided with a prescription that will allow them to collect their medication from a community pharmacy of their choice.
  • Items that must be dispensed by the hospital will be available via the free standing prescription collection point at Royal Bolton Hospital. All people need to register once for the service by sharing a few details to enable access to the system. Once registered, patients will get an instant notification via text when their prescription is ready – receiving a unique pin which can be shared with others to collect on their behalf if they wish.
  • Collection from the main pharmacy at Royal Bolton Hospital will also be available.
  • Home deliveries will be offered to patients that meet set criteria.

Eight pharmacies are located within a mile radius of Bolton One. People can find their nearest pharmacy and local opening times on the NHS website.

Rae Wheatcroft, Chief Operating Officer at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:

We’re always reviewing our services to understand how we can best meet the needs of the population.

“Following a thorough review of where our demand is, we have made the decision to close our Bolton One pharmacy so that we can focus our resources where they are needed most.

“The closure of this service will also allow us to utilise the space for other services in the centre of Bolton to improve access to care and treatment.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause.
