The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a complete service relating to conditions of the face, mouth and jaws, including a routine assessment and treatment service for common oral surgical conditions.
Our service provides a diagnostic and/or treatment service for conditions affecting oral medicine (ulcers and infections of the mouth), diagnosis and treatment of facial pain, diagnosis and treatment of jaw pain, and dentoalveolar surgery (difficult tooth extraction).
We are very sorry that we are having to suspend current Orthodontic Services at the Royal Bolton Hospital due to the current COVID 19 emergency.
We are intending to resume the service but we are unsure when this will happen, and as such your appointment may be rescheduled.
The major consequence of this suspension is that the overall duration of your treatment will be extended. However, you can help to reduce the other risks by ensuring you maintain good brushing and minimise or eliminate all sugary snacks and fizzy drinks during your treatment.
We are recommending all patients stop wearing their elastics as a course however we accept that some patients fully understand the bite we are aiming for and if you feel confident you can continue to wear elastics during the night only. If there is any doubt it would be preferable to stop wearing elastics.
Unfortunately we are currently unable to remove appliances or replace loose/ lost brackets.
Please defer any planned orthodontic extractions until the service resumes.
If you are wearing retainers or removable appliances please continue.
If you have an emergency or need to contact the department please ring the broken brace phone line on 01204 390520.
We will triage your emergency by telephone but please note this phone is not always manned. We will aim to offer you advice over the phone if possible to minimise the number of patients attending the hospital and can post you other items such as wax as required.
Please do not attend the department if you have not been given a specific time or date. We will not be able to see you if you attend in this way. You will be putting yourself at risk, along with other members of the public and hospital staff. You will not be seen, and will be asked to return home.
